ABOUT Kate

An award winning registered dietitian, Kate is a nationally known nutrition and health expert when it comes to smart eating for busy people. Kate is the author of Go Green Get Lean: Trim Your Waistline with the Ultimate Low-Carbon Footprint Diet (Rodale, 2009).  She is also the Nutrition Contributor for Pregnancy Magazine, where she dishes on the latest health and nutrition info for moms-to-be in her monthly column “Let’s Eat!”.

As America’s Green Nutritionist™ Kate has been on the leading edge of helping America recognize the connections between our diet and its impact on our climate crisis. She’s passionate about helping consumers and companies alike understand a host of green issues, why they matter, and how they can maximize health and flavor while minimizing their carbon footprint.

A mom to two young children herself, Kate excels in translating the latest science into simple, delicious and nourishing food choices for busy families across America. Dishing up science with a side of humor to deliver a very real message about the State of our Plate-and its connection to the State of our Planet- companies and groups hire Kate to entertain, educate and inspire their members to transform their diet from a Hummer to a Hybrid, and look and feel their best as a result.

For over a decade, Kate’s company ran weight loss and wellness programs in New England for dozens of leading companies, including GE Aircraft, Sun Microsystems, Reebok International, Goldman Sachs, Yankee Candle, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Boston Scientific Corporation, Citistreet, Nova Biomedical Corporation, Tufts Health Plan and Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare. In 2004 Kate was awarded Outstanding Young Dietitian of the Year in Massachusetts by the American Dietetic Association.

Kate has been widely quoted in leading national media publications including O, The Oprah Magazine, Time Magazine, Self, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, The Chicago Tribune, The Atlanta Constitution, Prevention, Health, Family Circle, Parents, Woman’s Day, Body & Soul, and has appeared on The Dr. Oz Show, Martha Stewart Living Radio, You: The Owner’s Manual and Montel Williams AirAmerica radio programs. Kate has also given over 75 tv interviews for NBC, ABC, CBS, Comcast, and FOX News affiliates across the country.  

Kate graduated Magna cum laude from Middlebury College, and received her Masters in Science from Simmons College. Kate spent a year working at the Mangia cooking school in Florence Italy, honing her culinary skills, and love of all things Italian. In April 2006 she partnered with Field to Plate® to co-host an Exchange Forum on Childhood Obesity and School Lunch in Challans, France, and continues to be inspired by other cultures and cuisines on how to best nourish ourselves and our kids.

Kate is a professional member of the American Dietetic Association, the Nutrition Entrepreneurs Dietetic Practice Group, the Dietitians in Business and Communication Practice Group, and the Hunger and Environmental Nutrition Practice Group. When she's not cooking up eco-licious cuisine, she enjoys lots of skiing, hiking, and mountain biking with her husband and two children in the mountains of Utah.
